Forfeiture of Property
Forfeiture of Property cases, sometimes referred to as Civil Asset Forfeiture cases, although civil in nature, are closely related to criminal cases. Why? Because the government, when it seizes and seeks to forfeit property, is alleging that the property is in some way connected to, or has a nexus to, criminal activity. Essentially, the government is attempting to take property without compensating the owner in these cases.
